Hello, this is mizmizo.
By the way, I got married last month.
I’m still in the midst of all the formalities and preparations, but I’m releasing Lightroom presets!
Let’s get right to the point.
Actually, there is only one preset that I use when I edit my photos.
This,
this,
and this are all edited with the same preset.
Today, I present a set of six presets derived from this strongest preset.
The title is “mizmizo’s Lightroom Presets / All-weather Cinematic Collection“!
As the name suggests, I created this presets to recreate my worldview in all weather conditions.
introduction
Why I split the strongest preset.
Simply put, it is because no one can master it.
An overly complicated preset, no matter how much potential it has, is useless if you don’t know how to use it.
Therefore, I have derived them according to their uses, and created a group of presets that can be adjusted by simply moving 2 to 4 sliders (or tone curve control points).
Concept of mizmizo’s Preset
Presets that are generally available for sale can be divided into two main types. One is the “exclusive preset”and the other is the “generic preset”.
The “exclusive preset” is, if done well, a strong type. It strongly reproduces the creator’s worldview, but basically there are many patterns that do not work well, so it is better to buy a preset for study rather than for practical use. Most of the presets in the world are like this.
“General Preset” is a practical type of preset that does not have strong individuality but is hard to collapse, and can be used as a base for editing. After applying a preset, you can add various edits and arrange it to your liking. These are few in number and usually very expensive.
My presets were intended to be “somewhat generic presets” that recreate my worldview while remaining generic.
It is a little more likely to collapse due to the increased individuality = quirkiness, but there are things that make up for it.
It is an “instruction manual”.
I have covered every detail of the presets, including the expected scenes, characteristics, how to recover from a collapse, and how to arrange the presets. I believe this is more valuable than the presets.
Please use and arrange the presets while reading the instruction manual, and develop them into your own strongest presets.
Preset Information 1: “somewhat generic presets”
This set includes two “somewhat generic presets”.
If you shoot the same way I do, these two presets will cover most weather conditions.
If you don’t get into it well, they are designed to be easily adjusted.
Faded memory
The first somewhat generic preset, “Faded memory”.
Memories that were vivid when you released the shutter, but as time goes by, the surroundings and details fall away, and only the presence of the subject you were so captivated by stands out. This preset is designed to express such memories and is the basis of mizmizo’s worldview.
Faded memory is the most generic preset in this set. It is designed to work with photos with a certain degree of contrast without collapsing in most cases (as long as the exposure is correct).
It enhances the texture of the midtones while taking advantage of the original contrast and gently puts teal & orange tones on it. The range of arrangement is very wide, and there is adjustment margin for almost every parameter.
It is practical enough as it is, but I encourage you to create new presets based on it.
Calm days
The second somewhat generic preset, “Calm days”.
Important memories are not only created under intense light.
It can be cloudy, foggy, or after the sun goes down. This is the perfect preset for such a peaceful time.
Calm days is designed for slightly flat light. It can be applied to fog, snow, rain, after sunset, and other photos with little difference in brightness or darkness without collapsing, creating a warm atmosphere while gently lifting shadows. When the weather is sunny, it can be adapted by shooting slightly darker with backlighting.
Color grading is quite modest but can be freely adjusted and arranged to suit the data.
Preset Information 2: “exclusive presets”
This set contains four “exclusive presets” as examples of “somewhat generic presets” arrangements.
These presets will not work unless you imitate me in terms of the scene and the way of capturing the light. Instead, when they work well, they faithfully reproduce the world of mizmizo.
“exclusive presets” is based on the two “somewhat generic presets”.
You can study the relationship between them or create a new preset.
Bystander’s view
An inspiring sunrise. You and your friend watching it.
What is the view you see when you shift your gaze to your friend?
Yes, sidelight and backlight.
“Bystander’s view” is a preset for backlit or side-lit photographs taken in an environment with strong contrasts. It reduces too much contrast and brings back shadow tones while preserving the impression of dazzling light.
Vibrant lights
“Vibrant lights” is the preset opposite of Bystander’s view.
When the light is too weak and not enough, Vibrant lights can be used to emphasize the solidity and texture of the subject. This is a bold and wild preset, and has the potential to revive photos that are somewhat boring.
It is suitable for use on a back shot or landscape, as it does not take into account the beauty of the skin at all.
Seasonal colors
Unlike the previous two presets, “Seasonal colors” and “Silent dawn” make use of light in a straightforward manner.
Seasonal colors are for sunny afternoon forward light only. It depends on the season, but generally light from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. in Japan is suitable. If you use the sky, sea, or natural scenery as a background, it will bring out 100% of the seasonal atmosphere in your photos.
Refreshing in summer, nostalgic in autumn and winter.
It’s not suitable for spring. I have hay fever in spring.
Silent dawn
As the name suggests, “Silent dawn” is a preset dedicated to before sunrise. It carefully captures the weak light from the eastern sky before sunrise and creates a gentle gradation.
Not many people take portraits before sunrise, but I really wanted to include it in the set.
The most distinctive feature is the incorporation of teal & orange into the thin gradation without collapsing.
This makes it possible to create unique colors even in the difficult environment of before sunrise.
This adjustment was really difficult. I have written down exactly what technique I used to achieve this in the instruction manual so that everyone can learn it.
By the way, although this is not the original purpose, when used for daytime photos, it produces a very strong fade and a cinematic look.
